Who, When, Why

New Americans are those who regardless of race, color, gender, religion, and country of origin are treated by our government and the community as if they are foreigners through public policy or new laws passed in the name of national security.

Cultural biases always exist but intensify during periods of national crisis such as World War II and the 9/11 attack in 2001. "New" Americans are not limited to foreign-born U.S. citizens and recent immigrants with legal permanent resident status. They include those who are born in this country and those who have been here for several generations.

Unfortunately, immigrant minorities and their American-born children often face discrimination because of racial and ethnic profiling. Moreover, they are often unaware of their basic constitutional rights until it is too late.
