News | From the Associated Press:
The Supreme Court delayed Monday a decision on whether to take up a fight over reporters' confidential sources, apparently because a former government scientist's lawsuit that prompted journalist subpoenas may be settled.
News | From the Bill of Rights Defense Committee:
House of Representatives may vote on PATRIOT Act Reauthorization as soon as Friday, Dec. 9. The most recent conference report draft available is here. It is possible, although not confirmed, that little in the draft has changed. We understand that the sunsets for sections 206, 215, and "lone wolf" have been shortened to four years. However, other crucial PATRIOT Act flaws have been addressed, such as:
No required connection between records sought and a suspected terrorist or foreign agent for either section 215 (business records/library records) or 505 (expanded National Security Letter powers).
Punitive additions to the National Security Letter power that would result in penalties being imposed for failure to comply with a records request or the permanent gag order.
Contact your representatives right away to voice your concerns.
Campaign | Remembered in January of this year we brought you the story of two Dallas Chinese American engineers Freddie Kwong and Andy Yuan who were arrested because what appeared to be a wrongful accusation of computer sabotage by their ex-employer- after they complained about racial discrimination at workplace. With the early intervention of J4NA and the help of friends and families of Freddie and Andy they were released after a few days and the case is now going in front of the judge on October 7th.
To ensure their rights and due process are guaranteed we are starting a letter writing advocacy campaign on behalf of Freddie and Andy.

News | From the Bill of Rights Defense Committee's e-mail newsletter:
"Local education and organizing across partisan boundaries are the best ways to combat the lack of awareness about the USA PATRIOT Act and the partisan politics in Washington that resulted in last week's House vote to reauthorize the USA PATRIOT Act. Furthermore, your silence will be interpreted as agreement with the policies, so make sure your legislators hear your concerns."
